Overview

Sellafield Ltd’s Remote Technologies Group required a clear and structured communication toolkit to demonstrate the value of remote access technologies across high-hazard nuclear environments.

To support this, we developed a connected suite of visual and strategic materials designed to help RTG communicate its impact more consistently and support future investment conversations.

The Challenge 

The main challenge was not simply designing individual documents, but creating a clear system for explaining RTG’s value across a wide range of technologies, services and operational scenarios.

At the start of the project:

 

  • RTG’s benefits were spread across multiple projects and use cases

  • UAV, ROV and Robotics activities needed to be presented under one consistent structure

  • Technical information needed to be simplified for wider stakeholder understanding

  • Benefits needed to be linked to measurable outcomes

  • Case studies needed a consistent format and visual language

  • The team needed a clearer way to show both realised and in-flight benefits

  • The final outputs had to work as standalone documents and as a connected toolkit

The project also needed to balance technical accuracy with strong visual communication, making complex nuclear decommissioning benefits easier to understand at a glance.

Our Approach 

We adopted a structured information design approach focused on clarity, consistency and usability.


The first step was to define a clear communication framework around RTG’s three core capability areas:

  • UAV — aerial inspections, live monitoring, urgent deployments and data capture

  • ROV — ground-based and underwater remote access, inspection, characterisation and sample collection

  • Robotics — fixed robotic systems used for material handling, servicing and housekeeping

We then translated RTG’s benefits into a repeatable structure:
